Dean Prophet has stepped down as Bishop Diego’s varsity boys basketball coach to take the same position at Foothill Tech in Ventura, Bishop Athletic Director Dan Peeters announced on Sunday. Foothill Tech has been granted CIF status for the 2014-2015 school year. Prophet, a physical education teacher at Ventura High School, cited that the opportunity to coach in the same school district where he works and lives was too good to pass up. During Prophet’s four-year tenure at Bishop, the basketball program has experienced tremendous success, advancing to the CIF finals for the first time in school history in 2011, and to the semifinals for the third time in school history this season. The Cardinals also won a league championship under his direction in 2011 and finished in either first or second place in league for three of his four years. “Coach Prophet’s record speaks for itself,” Peeters said. “He is a man of the outmost integrity and it has been a pleasure to work with him. We wish him nothing but the best going forward. I am confident that we will find someone to build on the success that was experienced during Prophet’s leadership.” Please contact Peeters if you are interested in applying for the vacant position.
