Christina Khalil captured the 100 hurdles on Friday and five SBCC teammates were second in the WSC Relays.
Khalil, a sophomore from San Marcos, was clocked in 16.85 in the women’s track and field meet at Ventura College. Her teammate, Alyssa Garrett, was second in the 400 hurdles at 1:13.43.
In the field events, Kodie Hebert placed second in the javelin at 30.32m and Kathryn Rucker was second in the high jump at 1.65m.
Courtney Lihares, Kaitlin Heely and Jessica Escalante teamed up with two seperate teammates to finish second in the 800 sprint medley relay and the 4 x 200 relay. Teamming up with Khalil, they placed second in the 4 x 200 relay in 1:50.24. Leading off the 800 sprint medley was Hannah Guilles. The foursome finished in 1:58.74.
“We had a lot of strong performances today,” noted coach Scott Fickerson. “The women placed in lots of different events, showing a good range. This will pay off later in the season as we get to our scoring meets.”
The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC North Meet on Friday at Bakersfield.
