Sophomore James Herb made up a 5-meter deficit in his 400 anchor leg on Friday and SBCC captured the 800 sprint medley relay in the WSC Relays at Ventura College. Herb ran 50.7 for the victory with teammates Nick Smith (100m), Riley Nunes (100) and Cameo Goree (200).
Santa Barbara was clocked in 1:34.55, edging West L.A. by 0.11 seconds. The Vaqueros posted three wins and four runner-up finishes.
Bas Van Leersum won his second straight 400 hurdles race in 55.11, beating the field by more than 2.5 seconds. Kyle O’Hollaren won the pole vault in his first collegiate competition at 4.40 meters (14-5¼ inches).
The Vaqueros were runners-up in all four throwing events. Freshman Michael Orsoco was second in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw, while sophomore Scott Santella took second in the javelin.
“The men had many fine performance,” said coach Scott Fickerson. “It was great to see them competing hard and coming together as a team.”
SBCC will compete in the WSC North Meet on Friday at Bakersfield
