SEATTLE, Wash.—Dealt with a loss from Washington State yesterday, UC Santa Barbara (1-5) looked to regain its winning ways with a tough and well played win against No. 41 Washington (5-1). Facing two of the very tough Pac-12 programs this weekend, Santa Barbara could not record a win as the team suffered a 7-0 loss to the Huskies.
From the start of the morning, UCSB was put on its heels as the team faced an uphill battle. Washington showcased its talented squad with the doubles pairs dominating the groups of the Gauchos. Junior Paola Cos and freshman Kaiulani Boyer highlighted the Gauchos as they were the pair on court No. 1. Cos and Boyer had flashes of good play, but it was not enough as the pair went through a 6-2 loss. Junior April Scatliffe and sophomore Priscila Garcia paired up on court No. 2, but faced a tough 6-0 loss while the pair of Stacy Yam and Luisa Ortiz Candido finished with a 6-1 defeat.
The singles matches did not fair as well for the Gauchos as the team faced a tough challenge of pulling off a come from behind victory against the Huskies. Boyer was once again seeded onto court No. 1 and proved to be a challenge for Washington. In the end, Boyer ended with a tight 6-2, 7-6 loss. Scatliffe came even closer to a victory as she suffered a tough three set 7-6, 3-6, 10-6 loss. Washington proved to be too much for the Gauchos as the Pac-12 program completed the 7-0 sweep.
The Gauchos will finally return home next weekend and host Pacific on Sunday, February 16th at 10 a.m.
