Nick May had 10 kills and Evan Yoshimoto added nine on Friday night as SBCC opened its men’s volleyball season with a 25-15, 25-9, 25-15 sweep at San Diego City.
May, a 6-2 sophomore outside hitter, hit .438 and Yoshimoto was even more efficient at .500. Drew Hogan had two aces and 26 assists.
It was the first college coaching win for Matt Jones, who was a starting hitter for Harvard the last four years.
“We were a little nervous in the first set, then we settled down,” said Jones. “We served pretty well and did a good job of keeping their offense out of rhythm.”
The Vaqueros travel to Irvine Valley on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match.
