GSoc: Warriors play hard against No. 3 Oak Park

Carpinteria didn’t back down against Division 3 third-ranked Oak Park in Monday night’s Tri-Valley League girls soccer match.

The Warriors lost 5-0, but coach Charles Bryant felt his team gave the Eagles a game.

“The girls really stepped up their play and again, even though we were outmatched, we were never outfought,” he said.

Oak Park’s high pressure defense was the difference in the match. The Eagles forced turnovers and attacked in numbers.

“We did get caught ball watching on the first two goals as they swung an attacking player behind our defenders both times,” Bryant explained. “Our midfield did a good job of transitioning tonight as well. Kelsie Bryant and Alexa Benitez probably logged in about eight miles of running with their back and forth efforts.”

Bryant also had praised for goalkeepers Lesly Zapata and Natalie Saito, and defender Erin Durflinger

“Even with the one-sided loss I was pleased with our efforts,” said Bryant.

Carpinteria is now 6-11-1 overall and 0-9 in the TVL.
