San Marcos gave up two first-half goals and never recovered, falling to Ventura, 3-1, in its final Channel League girls soccer game on Tuesday.
The loss drops the Royals to 2-4-2 in league. They need Ventura to win or tie against Dos Pueblos (2-4-1) on Thursday to finish in third place and make the CIF playoffs. A DP win puts it in the playoffs.
San Marcos was behind 3-0 before goalkeeper Hannah Harrah scored on a penalty kick after Kaitlyn Saperstein was fouled going to goal.
