The Cate girls soccer team put together one its best performances of the season and it was rewarded with a 1-0 victory over Dunn in a Condor League game on Thursday.
The Rams used some nice teamwork to score the game’s only goal in the 60th minute. Emma Liberman headed the ball to Cydney Pierce, who placed it in front of a charging Anna Graves and Graves buried the shot for her first Cate goal.
The Cate defense did the rest to post the shutout.
“For the next twenty-minutes, we kept the Dunn attack at bay thanks to Lucia Johnson, Makena Fetzer, and Fernanda Pett in the backfield,” coach Lisa Holmes said. “Jasmine Paz played the entire game at center mid-field and stymied Dunn’s transition game, especially in the second half. And, it must be said that Tamsyn Walker played a perfect game in the net and was central to our win.”
Holmes was pleased how the team played in the second half.
“We were the best team in the second half and played a complete game from the back to the front,” she said. ‘We benefitted from finally having a few more healthy players to draw on, but we also played with more intensity and purpose than we have seen on the field in the past several games.”
