GSoc: Laguna falls short in wild match

Siena Speir assisted on three Laguna Blanca goals, but it wasn’t enough as the Owls lost a wild 4-3 non-league game against Orcutt Academy on Tuesday.

Orcutt stunned Laguna Blanca with a 30-yard blast for a goal just 30 seconds into the match

“I think even the shooter was surprised as the ball nestled into the top corner of the net,” said Laguna coach Kevin Shertzer. “To go down so early in the match could have killed the spirit of the Laguna team, but they battled back.”

The Owls (2-6-2) tied the score in the 10th minute when Siena Speirs played a through ball to Clara Madsen, who calmly tucked home a shot from close range.

Orcutt struck again with another long shot and led 2-1 at halftime.

Laguna was burned by another shot from distance and fell behind 3-1 early in the second half. But the Owls fought back Speirs hit a free kick that Maddie Bonser met with a dashing header to make 3-2.

Orcutt went ahead 4-2 before Speirs and Bonser hooked up again.

“With five minutes left, we felt we had enough time to at least level. Unfortunately for us, that didn’t materialize,” said Shertzer. “I was very happy with our team’s performance. We never gave up and scored some really nice goals.”
