Santa Barbara High created some dangerous scoring chances and finished two of them to beat Ventura 2-1 in a Channel League girls soccer match on Tuesday.
“Our team played together tonight,” a pleased Santa Barbara coach Jeff Johnson said. “We had good passing and we were goal dangerous at times, which was the difference.”
Jackie Lopez gave the Dons a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute, finishing a service into the box from Hannah Brisby.
The Dons made it 2-0 in the 48th minute when Danielle Smith made a run from the back row, latched onto a ball played in by Abby Guillen and ripped a shot past the goalkeeper.
Ventura scored in the 62nd minute to avoid the shutout.
Santa Barbara (9-5-4, 2-3-1) plays a key match against San Marcos on the second Super Saturday Showdown at Warkentin Stadium.
