The UCSB women’s swimming and diving team will be competing in the MPSF Championships beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and concluding Saturday, Feb. 22. East Los Angeles College will host the swimming events while the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center will host the diving competition. The championship meet will feature eight schools on the women’s side and three on the men’s. The women placed fourth in last year’s championships.

The Gauchos finished the regular season 8-2. In their final home meet of the season they defeated Cal Poly, 183-110 on Feb. 1. Senior Andrea Ward holds conference high times in the 200 freestyle at 1:47.70 and 100 butterfly in a blistering 51.76. Ward also holds the conferences fastest time in the 200 butterfly in 1:56.11. Junior Heren Alanis holds conference fast times in the 500 freestyle (4:47.78) and 400 individual medley (4:18.07). Senior Sophia Yamauchi swam the conferences fastest 200 individual medley finishing in 2:01.70.
The top divers for the Gauchos this season in the one-meter were Mariah Renteria (269.35) and Hannah Tomp (266.85). In the three-meter the top Gaucho was Monika Terry (275.95). The top platform divers were Tomp (181.95) and Quetzal Moreno (177.35)
The meet gets underway on Wednesday at 6:00pm with the 200 yard medley relay finals and 800 yard freestyle relay finals. The divers will begin on Thursday at 11:00am with one-meter preliminaries.
