Westmont women’s volleyball coach Patti Cook and former UCSB and AVP player Matt Riley captured the annual Polar Bear beach volleyball doubles tournament at East Beach on Saturday.
Cook and Riley defeated Jackie Signor and Dillan Bennett in the final. Signor is the oldest AAA-rated player in the history of California Beach Volleyball Association. Bennett is the boys volleyball coach at Laguna Blanca and a AAA-rated beach player.
The Polar Bear drew 100 participants ranging from 8th grade girls to 60-year old men. Players from as far north as San Jose and as far south as San Diego took part.
Other finishers were Jordon Dyer/Dana Kabashima and Alex McGeever/Melody Khadavi in third place. New SBCC men’s volleyball coach Matt Jones took ninth place.
