Trey Barrett blasted a two-run homer in the eighth inning on Friday and SBCC went on to beat L.A. Harbor 9-3 in Wilmington.
Barrett’s blast to left-center was the first college HR for the former Santa Barbara High standout and gave the Vaqueros a 4-3 lead in the nonconference baseball game. Santa Barbara (4-0) added five more runs in the ninth.
Sophomore left-hander Tyler Gilbert (2-0) turned in another strong effort, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings. Kit Larson pitched the final two frames for his first save.
Shortstop Matt Henderson went 4-5, Noeh Martinez had a double and a single and Jack Gregson collected two hits off the bench. SBCC jumped ahead 2-0 in the second but the Seahawks (2-2) took the lead with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
“Our bench was tremendous today,” said coach Jeff Walker. “We used 27 or 28 guys. They threw a left-hander and we had a right-handed lineup that got the job done.”
The Vaqueros collected 11 hits and scored nine runs for the third time in four games.
SBCC will play a doubleheader at Saddleback in Mission Viejo on Saturday, starting at noon.
