Owen Lincoln and Travis Smelley won their two doubles sets and improved to 5-0 on the young season, leading San Marcos to a 14-4 boys tennis win over Laguna Blanca on Thursday.
“Owen and Travis have provided great leadership this year and are starting to a get a feel for playing together,” San Marcos coach Jarrod Bradley said. “They’ve turned defense into offense well and clearly enjoy playing together.”
The Royals’ No. 3 doubles team of Cody Krueger and Matthew Lockwood went also went 2-0 and didn’t drop a game.
“Cody and Matt looked comfortable playing together today. They volleyed confidently and served well, getting 72 perent of their first serves in play. That’s a winning combination in doubles,” said Bradley.
Laguna’s Ben Furukawa paced the Owls with a 2-1 record in singles.
San Marcos (2-0) hosts a talented Valencia, whom they haven’t beaten in four years, on Friday. The match will be played Monday if it is rained out.
