Laguna Blanca’s Damian Nunez
Damian Nunez scored twice, and Laguna Blanca notched a big Condor League win over visiting Thacher, 2-1, on Wednesday.
“This was a huge win,” Laguna Blanca coach Daniel Torres said.
Laguna Blanca is 2-2 in league play and 5-3-2 overall.
Nunez scored off an assist from Cooper Farrell for a 1-0 lead and Thacher knotted the score in the 25th minute.
Nunez beat the goalkeeper on a 23-yard free kick for the game-winner in the first minute of the second half.
“He’s been playing well. He scored two nice goals,” Torres said of Nunez.
“We created a lot of chances today. It was so positive across the board. The boys played well, Torres added.
He lauded the play of freshmen Luke Smillie and Henry Farrell in the midfield. “They played amazing games. They were playing like freshmen in college. It was fun to watch them. They just controlled the center of the park,” said Torres.
Laguna Blanca is back in action on Saturday at first-place Cate.
