Abraham Sierra scored two goals, and Santa Barbara High’s boys soccer team extended its lead in the Channel League with a 4-0 shutout of Ventura on Tuesday at Peabody Stadium.
“This was a big win for us coming the loss against DP last week,” Santa Barbara coach Todd Heil said.
The victory improves Santa Barbara’s league record to 5-1-0 (15 points), putting them four points ahead of second-place Dos Pueblos (3-1-2, 11 points) with two matches remaining.
“This makes Saturday’s game against San Marcos really important,” said Heil.
The Dons can clinch the title with a win.
Jorge Garcia Torres scored off an assist from Pepe Barron to open the scoring for the Dons in the 12th minute. Sierra made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute.
Santa Barbara didn’t let up in the second half, picking up its third goal in the first minute. Garcia Torres fed Barron, who beat the Ventura goalkeeper 1 v 1.
Sierra also won a battle with the goalkeeper for the fourth goal in the 59th minute.
Robert Soto and Ignacio Rendon combined on the team’s 10th shutout.
