Leighton Brillo-Sonnino recorded his first career hat trick, leading Cate to a 4-0 win over Thacher on Wednesday in Ojai.
The Rams, ranked fourth in CIF Division 6, finish the regular season at 9-2-4 and 5-0-1 in the Condor League.
Brillo-Sonnino headed home a long throw from Matthew Firestone in the 28th minute to get Cate going.
Firestone scored in the first minute of the second half, ripping a shot from outside the box that deflected off a Thacher defender and into the net.
Seven minutes later, Joel Serugo was dragged down in the box and Brillo-Sonnino converted the resulting penalty kick to make it 3-0.
In the 65th minute, Brillo-Sonnino completed the hat trick by nodding home a cross from Iman Fardghassemi.
“I couldn’t be happier for Leighton,” Cate coach Peter Mack said. “ He’s a workhorse, often taking care of the gritty, not-so-glamorous work in the middle of the field, so it seems fitting that he gets his due in his final regular season game at Cate … and against the Toads to boot.”
The Rams now turn their attention to the CIF playoffs. The pairings will be announced on Monday.
