Omar Miranda took over the game in the second quarter, leading Carpinteria to a 73-37 win over Grace Brethren in a Frontier League game.
Grace came out strong, making seven 3-pointers in the first half.
“We came out flat and did not dictate the pace of the game,” said Carpinteria coach Johnny Ward.
Miranda pushed the pace and led the Warriors to a 38-30 halftime lead.
“He was responsible for the lead at halftime by pushing the ball and distributing to the rest of the team for layups,” said Ward.
Ian Craddock played well defensively in the second half after Rayshaun Moore had to sit with a cut under his eye from an inadvertent elbow.
“Ian took their leading scorer out of the game with his pressure,” said Ward.
Mason Picerni (14 points) and Duncan Gordon (15) established themselves inside and combined for 29 points.
“Our defense in the second half and Omar’s tempo were the keys tonight,” Ward said. “We came out in the second half with more energy, effort, and emotion. We held them to just 7 points in the entire second half.”
Carpinteria improves to 17-7 on the year, 8-1 in league. The Warriors play the league finale at Nordhoff with a chance to be league co-champions.
