Peter Kwock scored a career-high 30 points, and Bishop Diego pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Academy of Academic Excellence, 71-56, in CIF Division 5AA second-round boys basketball playoff game Friday night in Apple Valley.
Kwock scored half of his points from the free-throw line, making 15 of 18.
“He did a great job getting to the basket,” Bishop coach Dean Prophet said.
Kwock also found his teammates for baskets.
“He ran the offense and kept the team composed. He did a good job for us tonight,” said Prophet.
The Cardinals advance to a quarterfinal game on Tuesday at New Community Jewish in West Hills.
Prophet said the AAE gym was packed and loud.
“Their fans were into it, but we took their fans out of it in the fourth quarter. We outscored them 22-11,” he said.
Nick Busch scored 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter. Grant Sexton was Bishop’s second leading scorer with 14 points.
Prophet noted the play of freshman Mike Agnoli. “Without Thomas (Lash, who is out with an ankle injury), I needed another big guy, and he did a good job for us.”
