John Basar and Ryan Baird each scored 15 points, leading Cate to a 56-51 Condor League boys basketball win over Thacher on Wednesday night.
It was a back-and-forth contest. Cate led 14-6 after the first period only to see Thacher retake the lead before halftime, 25-24. The Toads led 39-33 after the third period. But the Rams took over in the final period, outscoring their rivals 23-12 to take the victory.
Sophomore Clinton Hall provided the Rams with a real offensive spark and hit two big 3-pointers and ended the game with 9 points. Senior Carlos Fairbanks helped the Rams by hitting a trey and went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line late in the game.
Baird was a force on defense, altering several Thacher shots and blocking five of them.
