WBK: Vaqueros go cold, fall to Pierce, 74-47

SBCC shaved an 11-point halftime deficit to two on Wednesday at L.A. Pierce, then went cold and the Brahmas took advantage to post a 74-47 women’s basketball win in Woodland Hills.

Pierce (14-9, 2-4 WSC North) led 32-21 at halftime. Monica Jackson scored 28 for the Brahmas, who improved to 6-1 at home.

Jessica Valadez topped the Vaqueros (9-11, 1-5) with a season-high 11 points, including 3-5 from 3-point range. Mhiah Vickers added nine points, seven rebounds and five assists and Elia Salazar grabbed nine rebounds, including seven offensive.

Santa Barbara pulled within two with 15:08 to play, then went scoreless over the next four minutes as Pierce went on a 9-0 run.

The Vaqueros shot only 20.6 percent from the field (13-63) and 17-27 from the free-throw line. SBCC has shot over 40 percent just once in the last seven games.

The Vaqueros have a bye on Saturday, then travel to Canyons to open the second round of WSC play on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
