Ventura jumped out to an 18-5 lead on Wednesday night and never looked back in an 88-44 women’s basketball win over SBCC at the Sports Pavilion.
Lisa Marie Sanchez scored 22 points for the Pirates (19-3, 4-0), who are ranked No. 1 in the state. They’ve won their four WSC North games by an average of 32.3 points.
Adrianna Vega tallied 14 of her 17 points in the second half. She knocked down four 3-pointers after intermission on a night when the Pirates made 12-26 from long distance.

The visitors outshot the Vaqueros 51 to 29 percent and outrebounded them 37-19.
“We’re just struggling offensively,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “We’re having a hard time scoring. You can’t do anything when there’s a lid on the rim.”
Mhiah Vickers led the Vaqueros with nine points and six rebounds. Courtney Houston added seven points.
SBCC plays host to Hancock on Saturday at 5 p.m.
