UCSB won its final tune-up before beginning MPSF men’s volleyball action, sweeping Concordia in an exhibition match, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17, at Rob Gym on Friday.
No. 10 UCSB was led on offense by outside hitter Weston Nielson with five kills in each of the first two sets, finishing with a total of 11. Senior opposite Evan Licht provided ample firepower with 10 kills of his own. Further adding to the barrage were the seven kills from Matt Hanley and six kills from Ryan Hardy. UCSB collectively hit .500 clip for the match.
Setting up the offense was Jonah Seif with 36 assists, a which bested his 35 assists from the previous match. The defense at the net was equally as impressive. Middle blocker Ryan Hardy put down five blocks and Licht had a part on an additional four blocks.
The Gauchos return to Rob Gym next Friday to face their first MPSF opponent, Pacific. The following night, UCSB takes on Stanford.
