Kelly Barsky
UCSB Director of Athletics Mark Massari has named Kelly Barsky deputy athletics director for internal affairs. She will supervise 14 of the Gauchos 20 Division I sports along with academic success, compliance and student athlete services. She will also assist with sports medicine and performance units, as well as serve as the department’s Senior Woman Administrator.
Barsky returns to athletics after serving as an academic advisor in UCSB’s College of Letters and Sciences since 2011 where she handled athlete support along with long-time advisor Jack Rivas. UCSB is currently at an all-time high 85% student athlete graduation success rate, second highest in the University of California system and five points above the campus average.
“First, I would like to thank Dr. Janis Ingham (Faculty Athletics Representative) for chairing our search along with the coaches and staff who assisted,” Massari said. “Coming from a coaching background as well as being at the heart of our academics success today, makes Kelly an outstanding addition to our senior leadership. Along with our student-athletes and staff, I’m happy to have her back in athletics.”
Barsky had previously worked as an assistant for three seasons under former UCSB women’s basketball head coach Lindsay Gottlieb where she was instrumental in helping the program win the Big West regular-season and tournament titles and appear in its 13th NCAA Tournament. Prior to arriving in Santa Barbara, Barsky spent four seasons as an assistant at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition to her duties as an assistant coach at St. Francis, she also served as the Senior Woman Administrator.

Prior to joining the staff at St. Francis, Barsky was an assistant at the University of New Hampshire from 2002-2004 and began at UNH as a graduate assistant for both the UNH men’s and women’s basketball programs.
Barsky holds a master’s degree in kinesiology from New Hampshire, as well as bachelors’ degrees in psychology and education from Keene State College in Keene, N.H. She was a captain and four-year letter winner for the Owls women’s basketball program. Barsky and her husband, Dave, have a son and daughter.
She will begin her athletics duties Feb. 3, 2014.
