GWP: Slow start costs Royals at Laguna Beach

San Marcos gave up five goals on counterattacks in the first period and suffered a 17-7 loss to top-ranked Laguna Beach in a non-league girls water polo match on Friday.

The Breakers made the Royals pay for their defensive errors and built a 9-1 lead.

San Marcos played better in the second half and scored six goals. Paige Hauschild tallied three goals to lead the team in scoring. Hailey Gellert, Brittany Prentice and Halie Johnson each scored a goal. Goalie Jenna Phreaner also added goal on a length-of-the-pool shot.
