San Marcos was giving perennial power Buena all it could handle in the first 20 minutes of their Channel League soccer match.
The Royals were ahead 1-0 when the tide suddenly turned. Buena capitalized on a couple of errors to score two goals before halftime, and the Bulldogs dominated the second half and won 5-1.
“It was tough to watch,” said a frustrated San Marcos coach Macie Berlin.
Natalie Widmer scored the goal for San Marcos in the 18th minute off a feed from Emma Jones.
The Royals fall to 6-4-6 overall and 1-2-2 in league.
