San Marcos dropped a 1-0 girls soccer decision to Buena in a Channel League opener on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs scored in the 42nd minute, capitalizing on a communication breakdown between the goalkeeper and the backline.
San Marcos pressured in the final 10 minutes get the equalizer.
“We really turned it up and pressed them hard,” San Marcos coach Macie Berlin said. “Kaitlyn Saperstein had a couple of chances that looked good but couldn’t convert.”
Berlin said Buena is a solid team and controlled most of the match.
“We were defending 80 percent of the time,” she said. “Hannah Harrah, our goalkeeper, made three big saves today. You have to give her a lot of credit.”
The Royals (5-3-3, 0-1) return to action Tuesday at Dos Pueblos.
