San Marcos and Dos Pueblos battled to a 1-1 draw in a Channel League girls soccer match on Tuesday.
The Royals (5-3-4, 0-1-1) scored first on a free kick by Kaitlyn Saperstein. They created several other chances but failed to convert.
Dos Pueblos equalized in the fifth minute of the second half on a penalty kick by Kiara Pickett.
Pickett was a spark plug for the Chargers in the second half. She set up a chance for a go-ahead goal on a free kick but a teammate’s header went off the post.
San Marcos coach Macie Berlin praised the play of defender Erin Riley. “She’s made an outstanding comeback from two torn ACLs,’ said the coach.
Goalkeeper Hannah Harrah played a solid game for the Royals.
