GSoc: Laguna gets late goal, ties Orcutt Academy

Laguna Blanca shook off the rust in the second half and rallied to earn a 1-1 draw with Orcutt Academy in a non-league girls soccer match on Tuesday.

Annabelle Sorensen jumped on a rebound of a shot by Brynn Jewett and scored the tying goal for the Owls in the dying minutes of the match. The play started with a corner kick that resulted in a scramble in front of the goal. Jewett got the ball and fired a shot that the Orcutt Academy goalkeeper parried away.

Earlier in the half, Clara Madsen of the Owls had an open shot blocked brilliantly by the goalkeeper. Sorenson picked up the ball and hit a shot that the goalkeeper fumbled. The Owls thought they scored but the referee didn’t agree.

Orcutt scored in the 20th minute after Laguna Blanca misplayed a punt that turned into a breakaway. Orcutt’s first attacker hit a shot off the upright and the rebound fell to a second attacker who put it away.

Laguna Blanca (1-3-1) plays at Villanova on Thursday.
