Carpinteria made a huge turnaround in its second Tri-Valley League meeting with La Reina in girls soccer.
The Warriors lost 2-1 on Wednesday, but a few weeks ago they were beaten 6-0.
“We had plenty of strong opportunities especially in the second half and were so close on many but we just could not get the equalizer,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said.
La Reina scored in the sixth minute and Kelsie Bryant answered for the Warriors. She hit a perfect ball into the upper corner to tie the score 1-1.
“The momentum started to turn in our favor for the rest of the half,” coach Bryant said. “The second half, however, saw La Reina put pressure on us and scored again fairly early.”
Carpinteria took control of the play but couldn’t come up with a tying goal.
“I was extremely proud of the whole team’s performance,” coach Bryant said. “It was great to get Lesly Zapata back and she played well. I thought Ava Gropper had her best game in quite a while for us. Her speed was giving the La Reina defenders fits.”
Carpinteria is now 6-9-1 overall and 0-7 in the TVL.
