Felix Mory made a memorable debut with the SBCC men’s golf team, firing a 3-under-par 69 on Monday to take medalist honors in the season-opening Bakersfield Tournament.
The freshman from Bourghelles, France topped the field by three shots at Seven Oaks Country Club. He could have gone even lower if he hadn’t three-putted on two of the last four holes.
“It was a great round by Felix,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “We played well in our first appearance.”
Ventura leads the seven-team field at 379, two strokes better than SBCC and Reedley. It’s a two-day tourney but the Vaqueros chose to play in the first round only.
Carson Curtis, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, shot 75 for the Vaqueros. Forrest Iverson, Alec Constantinides and Jake DePass posted 79s.
SBCC will compete in WSC No. 1 on Feb. 10 at Valencia CC. A week later, the Vaqueros will host WSC No. 2 at The Alisal Ranch Course in Solvang.
