Carpinteria was hanging close with La Reina until the Regents blew the game open in the fourth quarter and pulled away to a 42-24 win in a Froniter League girls basketball game.
The Warriors trailed by four (26-22) after the third period, La Reina got hot in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 16-2.
“One forward hit three big shots and it mushroomed from there,” said Carpinteria coach Dan Mercer. “For 3 ½ quarters, we played well.”
Hannah Galsterer scored nine points and Tori Kelley added eight points, Macey Frazer grabbed 10 rebounds for Carpintera (5-7, 0-2).
“It was a good effort against a very veteran team,” said Mercer.
