A big second quarter propelled top-ranked Santa Barbara to a 59-40 victory at Dos Pueblos in a Channel League girls basketball game on Thursday night.
The Dons were leading 11-10 before outscoring DP 25-6 in the second period.
Amber Melgoza poured in 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace Santa Barbara (19-3, 4-1), the No. 1 team in CIF Division 3A. Dezzy Coleman scored 18 points, had six rebounds and five assists, and Jocelin Petatan added eight points, six rebounds and four assists. Freshman Kimberly Gebhardt pulled down 12 rebounds.
Camila Casanueva scored 10 points for DP, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer in the first quarter.
“They played well,” Santa Barbara coach Andrew Butcher said of the Chargers (10-7, 1-4). “Their younger players battled.”
Santa Barbara is back in action on Saturday against Canyon at the Ventura Showcase.
