Hannah Rogers powered her way to 20 points and Jordyn Lilly scored 18, to carry the Bishop Diego girls basketball team to a 54-47 win over Fillmore in a Frontier League game on Tuesday.
Colleen Duley added eight points and six rebounds, as the Cardinals rebounded from their first league loss and improved to 5-1 in league and 12-6 overall.
“I was happy with the way we played defensively, especially in the first quarter,” Bishop coach Jeff Burich said. “We played well at the start and took a 19-12 lead.”
The Division 5AA 7th-ranked Cardinals were dominant on the boards. Lilly had 11 rebounds and Rogers grabbed seven. Lilly also had four steals.
Fillmore chipped away at the Bishop lead in the fourth quarter, cutting it five points with a minute to go.
“The girls did a good job taking care of the ball after that,” said Burich.
The Cardinals play Malibu on Thursday.
