CIF Polls: SBHS girls hold on to No. 1 ranking

Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team continues to hold down the No. 1 ranking in the CIF 3AA Division.

There was no change in the top five spots in the latest rankings. The Dons (17-3) are followed by Lakeside (15-6), San Juan Hills (15-3), Diamond Ranch (15-4) and Esperanza (13-8). In the only game between top-five teams, Lakeside defeated Dimaond Ranch.

Santa Barbara’s only losses have come against Camarillo, Sierra Canyon and Ventura. Camarillo is No. 1 and Ventura No. 2 in Division 1A and Sierra Canyon is top ranked in Division 4A.

In other girls basketball rankings Bishop Diego (11-6) is seventh this week in Division 5AA.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Santa Barbara holds down the No. 3 spot in the 3A Division for the second straight week. The Dons (16-2), whose only losses are against Sierra Canyon (No. 1 in 4A) and Newbury Park (11th in 2AA), trail Chaminade (No. 1, 16-2) and Cathedral (15-1).

San Marcos (14-6) is tied for 14th in the 3AA Division.

Bishop Diego (13-6) is tied for fourth with Chadwick in 5AA. Laguna Blanca (9-6) is ranked fifth in Division 6 and Providence (6-7) is 14th.

Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos are in the top 10 in Division 1. The Channel League-leading Dons (15-4-1, 4-0) are sixth and the Chargers (13-3-1, 3-1) are eighth. The rivals meet on Thursday at Santa Barbara.

Cate moved up to fourth in Division 6. The Rams (5-2-3) are unbeaten in their last seven matches. Jurupa Hills, Animo Leadership and Rubidoux are the top three teams in the divison.

Santa Barbara is ranked fifth in the latest Division 1 poll. The Dons play their final home game Thursday against No. 9 Dos Pueblos.

San Marcos is eighth in this week’s poll. The Royals will travel to top-ranked Laguna Beach on Friday.
