Carpinteria scored the tying goal late in the second half, but Oaks Christian was awarded a penalty kick and converted to upend the Warriors 3-2 in a Tri-Valley League boys soccer match on Wednesday.
Carpinteria finished the match with nine players as two players were issued red cards for dangerous plays.
Trailing 2-1, Juan Orozco went up for a 50-50 ball in front of the Oaks Christian goal. He managed to head the ball to a waiting Ruben Andrade, who scored to tie the score.
Oaks Christian came right back and drew a foul against Carpinteria’s goalkeeper for a penalty kick. The Lions converted to keep the Warriors winless in TVL play.
In the last minute of the second half our goal keeper committed a foul and gave oaks Christian the chance to go up 3-2 if they converted the PK.
Diego Contreras scored Carpinteria’s first goal on a free kick.
“We continue to create opportunities to win games and we continue to come up short,” said Carpinteria coach Leo Quintero. “We will continue battling and play with all we have.”
Carpinteria is 4-7-1 and 0-3-1 in league.
