Carpinteria’s boys soccer team got a fresh start in the second round of Tri-Valley League play with a 4-1 win over Fillmore on Tuesday night.
“It took a big weight off our young Warrior team shoulders to record our first league victory,” Carpinteria coach Leo Quintero said.
Carpinteria scored four unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 i the 25th minute.
“We carried momentum from last Friday’s tied against first-place Santa Paula and executed our plan to inch our way into contention in a very tough TVL,” Quintero said. “Solid defense and great in the midfield made scoring opportunities abundant for us.”
A powerful strike by Juan Pablo Alvarez got the Warriors on the board in the 32nd minute.
Juan Carlos Orozco gave Carpinteria the lead three minutes into the second half. Cristian Chacon scored in the 65th minute and Orozco tallied his second goal to put the game out of reach. Orozco has four goals in the last two matches.
Carpinteria (6-7-2, 1-3-2) returns to the field on Friday at Malibu.
“We will play one game at a time and keep believing,” said Quintero.
