Carpinteria finished the first round of play in the Tri-Valley League with a 1-1 draw against first-place Santa Paula on Friday.
Brandon Landeros gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute, finishing a cross from Benjie Garcia. Santa Paula tied the score in the 53rd minute.
The teams went at each other all game long.
“It was a thriller until the final whistle with both teams having plenty opportunities of scoring,” Carpinteria coach Leo Quintero said.
The teams battled through two five-minute overtime periods but couldn’t break the tied.
Quintero was pleased how his team performed.
“We had great energy and electric play from top to bottom,” he said. It’s what generated a positive result for us against a quality team in Santa Paula.
Carpinteria (4-7-2, 0-3-2) got strong play from goalkeeper Jose Angeles. He made 8 saves.
