The San Marcos boys soccer can’t seem to get a break this season.
The Royals had a potential game-tying penalty kick waved off by the referee and lost 2-1 at Buena in a Channel League game on Thursday.
According to coach Rob Lauderdale, a Royals player was taken down in the box and the referee showed a red card and sent the Buena player off.
“He then made the decision to wave off the penalty and instead give a direct kick right on the 18-yard box,” Lauderdale said.
San Marcos didn’t score on the free kick and remained winless in league play.
Buena scored its winning goal on a penalty kick in the second half.
