Julio Rubio converted a penalty in the second half, and Dos Pueblos got out of Ventura with a 1-1 draw against the Cougars on Tuesday.
Rubio pressured the Ventura defense all night but couldn’t find the back of the net. It took a Ventura red card for an intentional handball in the box to set up the Chargers’ lone goal. Rubio stepped up and nailed the penalty kick to tie the score.
Ventura took a 1-0 in the first half on a goal by Blake Ayub.
The Chargers are now 13-3-2 and 2-1-1 in league. They travel to Santa Barbara on Thursday to take on the first-place Dons.
