San Marcos lifted its spirits with a 1-0 win over Santa Ynez in a non-league boys soccer match on Friday.
The victory came after a loss against Buena on Tuesday. The Royals are 4-6-2 on the season.
The lone goal came off a set play. Sophomore Kelvin Uribe sent a long ball to the far post and Jake Castanha headed it past the goalkeeper.
The strong defensive play of Luis and Miguel Torres helped the Royals hold off a strong late-match surge by the Pirates.
The Royals are back home Tuesday for a Channel League match against Dos Pueblos.
