Tim Heiduk helped Dos Pueblos avoided a second home defeat in Channel League play as he scored two second-half goals to rally the Chargers to a 2-1 win over Buena.
Heiduk took advantage of a switch from center back to central midfield. He scored the tying goal in the 68th minute and delivered the game-winner in the 78th minute.
Buena took a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute, capitalizing on a DP turnover.
“Instead of putting our heads down, our boys decided to rally back,” DP coach Matt York said.
Alex Jimenez collected a free kick and played the ball across the middle of the penalty box, where Jon Sigurdson flicked toward a waiting Heiduk, whose header beat the Buena goalkeeper and tied the score at 1-1.
The winning goal was set up by another free kick from near the midline. Tucker Snider boomed the ball toward goal and Heiduk rose above everyone and headed it into the net for the eventual game-winner.
York said playing with the wind at their backs in the second half was a factor in the victory.
“Getting to play with the wind in the second half proved to be a blessing for us as we were able to keep possession down in their end for much of the half,” said York.
Dos Pueblos will take records of 11-3-1 and 1-1-0 in its next game at San Marcos on Tuesday.
