Laguna Blanca scored on an own goal in the seventh and the defense made it stand up for a 1-0 non-league boys soccer win over Trinity Classical of Santa Clarita on Thursday.
Trinity Classical headed a long throw by Jack Espy into its own net for the only goal of the game.
Laguna goalkeeper Mikey Hawker played a solid game to earn the shutout.
“He made three really good saves that kept us going,” Laguna assistant coach Daniel Torres said. “He made one on the last play of the game. On a 1 v 1, their guy made a nice shot, but Mikey put it over the crossbar.”
Torres cited the play of freshman midfielder Henry Farrell. “He played really well today. He stole a lot of balls; he played like a senior today. He’s had two really good games for us. He was the heart of the team today.
“The underclassmen have been playing well for us,” Torres added.
Laguna Blanca (3-1-1) opens Condor League play next Wednesday at Thacher.
