Carpinteria shook off a lackluster first half and ran away with a 51-20 boys basketball victory over Grace Brethren to remain undefeated in the Frontier League.
The Warriors slogged to a 17-9 lead at halftime before turning up the intensity.
“We were missing some of our fire and moxie at the beginning,” Carpinteria coach Johnny Ward said. “We came out in the second half and played the way we want to play.”
The Warriors cranked up their transition game and blew the game open.
“In the second half, we played closer to the way we’re capable of playing and took care of business,” Ward said.
Duncan Gordon scored 14 points and Mason Picerni scored a varsity career high of 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots for Carpinteria (12-6, 4-0).
The win sets up a Friday showdown against Nordhoff for sole possession of first place in league. The game is at Carpinteria.
