Santa Clara scored with seven seconds left in overtime and then blocked a Bishop Diego layup attempt to beat the Cardinals 59-57 in a Tri-Valley League boys basketball game in Oxnard on Wednesday.
The Cardinals were ahead by six points in the fourth quarter but they made only one field goal in the period.
“That was the big difference,” Bishop coach Dean Prophet said. “They scored six field goals and we scored only one.”
Santa Clara beat St. Bonaventure and lost by only one point against Oaks Christian.
“They have two really good players and we had trouble guarding them. They scored 19 and 17 points,” said Prophet.
Peter Kwock scored 14 points to lead Bishop. Grant Sexton added 13 points, Nick Busch 12 and Thomas Lash 11 points for the Cardinals (13-8, 4-2 in the TVL).
