Cate had a tough night shooting the basketball, but the Rams hit the boards and converted on offensive rebounds to score a 51-45 non-league win over Valley Christian Academy of Santa Maria on Friday night.
“Our aggressive rebounding on both ends of the floor enabled us to control the game,” said Cate coach Bryan Rodriguez.
Spencer Whiteman grabbed 10 rebounds and Ryan Baird hauled in nine boards for the Rams (4-5).
John Basar was the team’s high scorer with 13 points and shot 3 for 5 from the 3-point line. Baird had 11 points and freshman Nick Thomas contributed seven points.
Kian O’Connor and Humza Khurshid hit some clutch free throws late to keep control of the game.
