Providence got a bad break at the end of regulation and lost in overtime to Thacher, 53-52, in a Condor League boys basketball team.
With 15 seconds to go and Providence ahead by two, Thacher got off a shot but missed. In a scramble for the rebound, the official called a foul on the Patriots’ Erik Sheets with 0.4 seconds left Thacher made both free throws to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
Thacher outscored Providence 6-3 in the overtime period.
Sheets scored 22 points, making 6 of 11 3-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds. Ricky Beebe added 15 points and 9 rebounds.
