Bishop Diego stepped up its defensive pressure and rallied for a 43-40 win over Oak Park in a Tri-Valley League boys basketball game on Friday night at the Brick House.
The Cardinals were down 17-10 after the first quarter but turned the game around in the second quarter by holding the Eagles to three points.
“The boys started to believe we can play defense when we want to play defense,” Bishop coach Dean Prophet said.
The Cardinals held one of Oak Park’s leading scorers to 11 points, seven below his average. They also contained the Eagles’ point guard. Thomas Lash, Christian Pearson and BJ Murillo were standouts on defense,” Prophet said.
Lash scored 13 points to lead Bishop (12-5 and 3-0 in the TVL). Grant Sexton added eight points and brothers Nick and Will Busch each scored seven points.
