Brandon Burkhardt was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line and scored 19 points to lead Dos Pueblos to a 57-51 Channel League boys basketball win at Ventura on Wednesday night,
The Chargers finish the first round of league play at 2-2. They are 6-9 overall.
DP had a strong second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 15-6 to take a 27-18 halftime lead.
Ventura made a run in the second half and tied the score in the fourth quarter. But the Chargers reclaimed the lead and stayed on top thanks to Burkhardt’s excellent free-throw shooting. He was 8-for-8 in the final quarter.
DP coach Joe Zamora said Jayson Williams and freshman Anthony Trujillo did a good job running the offense and taking care of the ball.
He also cited the spark Erik Olson provided off the bench and the inside play of Matt Sessler and Derek Abbott against Ventura’s physical post players.
DP travels to Santa Barbara to begin the second round of league play on Friday.
