Dos Pueblos received big lift from a freshman in a 51-18 wrestling dual match win over Channel Islands on Tuesday night.
Ryan Fidel dropped 5-6 pounds to wrestle at 106 pounds and went out a defeated a junior wrestler from Channel Islands, 8-3.
“He’s a very good technical wrestler and a good student of the sport,” DP coach Anthony Califano said of Fidel.
Jeffy Uyesaka also dropped weight and scored an impressive pin for the Chargers at 138 pounds. “He wrestled at 145 last weekend at a tournament,” Califano said. “At 138, he looked confident and strong; he controlled the match.
Uyesaka’s pin secured the team victory for DP.
Cameron Cox turned in a solid performance at 132 pounds, winning by a technical fall, 18-3.
“He’s putting up a lot of points,” Califano said of Cox. “He’s very aggressive and has an entertaining style.”
Eden Martinez (152), Alex Garcia (170) and Paul Sinicrope (145) recorded pins, and heavyweight Ivan Govea pulled out a 3-2 victory for DP.
